The ParChat HomePage

Introduction

Welcome to the ParChat Homepage! Click here for site info! This page is dedicated to a program i wrote, called ParChat. ParChat is a Visual Basic program that allows the user to chat with one another, through the TCP/IP Protocol.

Unfortunately, so far it is in a state of construction, but i have decided to unleash a beta version upon the world. This means that version 0.9 is now available for download! I must warn you though, it's interface is a bit disorienting at first, but if you thoroughly read the (easy) guide on this site, you'll do just fine.

How to use ParChat

ParaChat is, unlikely to what some people might think, not real hard to use. I will now explain how to use it.

Step 1

Find someone to chat with, and start the program (duh).
Step 2
Use one of the boxes at the bottom, and click "listen". Click the "clipboard your IP" button and give your IP to your friend.
Step 3
Your friend will now fill in the IP box with your IP and "connect" through the same box you are listening through.
Step 4
Chat, beep & chat!

Note:   You can also "beep" your friend once you're connected. He will then receive a beep. You can use this to attract his attention during the chat session.

Downloads

Here are a bunch of files you can download. You might need to download the VB5 Runtime, too. If you experience problems with ParChat, please contact me!

ParChat Version 0.9 - Size : 181 Kb

The program itself, it is a zipfile containing the executable file. it also contains this guide and some .ocx files you need to run ParChat. However, it does NOT contain the Visual Basic 5.0 runtime. The .ocx should be placed in either the program directory or in the windows\sytem directory.
Visual Basic 5.0 Runtime - Size : 683 Kb
This file is needed for the program to run. It is very well possible you allready have this file, but should you need it, here it is. Once extracted from the zip file, place it in the windows\sytem directory.

History

Version 0.9

This version contains more options, but it also uses another way to send data, making the program a tad faster.
Version 0.8
This version allows 4 people to chat in the same room! I also added the "disconnect all" button.
Version 0.7
This version is multi-user! You can now chat with 3 people at a time!
Version 0.6
This version is remotely different from the last, because it features menus, which greatly enhances the user interface. I also added a "beep" button.
Version 0.5
This version saves your name to a file so you don't have to enter a nickname each time you chat.
Version 0.4
Again, the layout is greatly increased. Also, the "clipboard your IP" button is added.
Version 0.3
This version let's the incoming text appear in a smoothly scrolling textbox.
Version 0.2
The layout on this version is greatly improved.
Version 0.1
This version is simply a test version, all it can do is send data, and receive data the received data is displayed on the screen.

Here is a screenshot of the program (version 0.9), to give you an idea what it looks like:
